Midsumma Carnival – Alexandra Gardens, Melbourne

February 13, 2005

The Midsumma Carnival is a major sign-up event for new members and Friends of the Band.  This year our stall was in a prominent position on the main pathway.  Band members did an excellent job of setting up and staffing the stall in shifts during the day.

Thanks especially to those partners and friends who talked us up while we were all away performing.  Approximately 15 potential members registered interest in joining the band, and many more entered our competition for 2 tickets to the Ten Year Itch concert.

Our first performance of the day was on the main stage at midday where we played for half an hour.  The atmosphere was relaxed and the crowd was thoroughly appreciative of our performance.

Later in the afternoon we had our second performance.  The band marched to a drumbeat from our stall to the performance space along the way drawing a large crowd of followers and attracting the attention of everyone in the area.  The performance included crowd-pleasers “Hairspray”, “Porgy and Bess” and “They Went That Away”.
